What’s Required?
Your instructor will advise you on what book is required and will be based on the level that you are starting from. We do not sell books, but can either purchase one for you or recommend where to buy one. For a complete beginner, a simple small electronic keyboard is sufficient to learn the basics for the first few months or so. If the student desires to progress further then a digital piano with weighted and touch sensitive keys is a good next step. A decent quality one can be had for well under a thousand dollars new or used.
Beware the “free” Acoustic Piano
They are really free and are expensive to move, repair and maintain. Often piano’s are legacy pieces passed down from relatives and often become the biggest piece of unused furniture in the house. These piano’s may have sat for many years without being played or cared for. Their wooden parts, of which there are hundreds of complex small delicate pieces, are subject to changes in humidity and temperature. They will need adjustment and perhaps replacement costing into the many hundreds or even thousands. A “real piano” is a real commitment, so if you don’t already have one proceed with caution and do your homework on the instrument before taking on the responsibility.
